How to manage your time; and you need to manage you time because <strong>If you don\u2019t manage your time, others will.<\/strong> Not intentionally or maliciously\u2014it just happens through meetings, pings, email, and \u201cquick questions\u201d that fill every open slot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally your time falls into three buckets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reactive work:<\/strong> meetings, email, pings, escalations, alignment, reviews. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Execution work:<\/strong> planned tasks that move projects forward\u2014building, writing, shipping, closing loops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Compounding work:<\/strong> learning, creativity, networking, health, &#8230;. Easy to postpone but costly to ignore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The trap is that reactive work is loud and urgent, while compounding work is flexible\u2014so it gets pushed to \u201clater.\u201d And later often never comes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to protect your time. Moreover, not every hour is equal. It is recommended to have a daily window of peak cognitive energy. I\u2019m trying to build the habit of <strong>blocking that window on my calendar and treating it as non-negotiable<\/strong>. Otherwise, it gets consumed by reactive work\u2014and you end up with a day full of activity, but little real progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A practical fix: <strong>block your peak hours for execution and compounding work.<\/strong> Even one protected block a day\u2014one real \u201cdone\u201d\u2014can change how the day feels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you become more senior, responsibility at work (and in life) grows in every direction, and with that comes a big question.
